Pulpotomy
If a hole in a tooth goes deep into the tooth it can sometimes infect the nerve of the tooth.
This will often result in toothache or an abscess of the tooth.
Early treatment of these teeth is very important as if reached early a procedure called a ‘pulpotomy’ can be performed.
During a Pulpotomy the decay in the tooth is removed and the infected area of the nerve is also cleaned out. A special ‘dressing’ is applied to remove the pain from the tooth and the tooth is rebuilt, usually with a Kids Crown if the decay is extensive.
Pulpotomies have a good success rate if the infection is caught early and can prevent the early removal of baby teeth.
